The UARS is a NASA owned satellite that will be re-entering the earth's atmosphere on the evening of Friday 23rd September. The satellite will break up and fall over an area of 300 square miles, although the location of this area is impossible to predict. The chance of anyone being struck by any debris is in fact quite low - about 1 in 32,000.
The satellite was launched in 1991 and provided NASA with data about atmospheric photochemistry for 14 years.
