transparentnost
Poznate konvencije svakodnevne upotrebe medijuma dovode do toga da se dati kodovi čine "transparentnim" a medijum "prirodnim". Ovaj medijum se od strane instrumentalista smatra za sredstvo za postizanje cilja, gde se tekst smatra za "odraz", "predstavljanje" ili "izraz". Status teksta kao teksta - tekstualnost i materijalnost - je sveden na najmanju meru. Zdravorazumski se smatra da je označeno neposredno i da je označitelj "transparentan" i čisto denotativan, kao kada se televizija ili fotografija smatraju za "prozore u svet".
