Mike Wallace

Mike Wallace (May 9, 1918 – April 7, 2012) was an American journalist best known as one of the original correspondents for the TV Magazine 60 Minutes which debuted in 1968. During his journalist career spanning over sixty years, he interviewed a wide range of prominent figures in various fields. Wallace was famed for his tough interviews on "60 Minutes," — a style he practically invented for television more than half a century ago. Many of Wallace's interviews became headlines and stirred controversy, including his interrogation of Nixon associates John Ehrlichman, G. Gordon Liddy and H.R. Haldeman, his 1982 "CBS Reports" investigation alleging Gen. William Westmoreland had deceived the public by undercounting the enemy while being a commander of the U.S. military in Vietnam, and his 1998 interview with Dr. Jack Kevorkian which included video of Kevorkian lethally injecting an ill patient.

Wallace's brazen tactics and tough questions helped build CBS' "60 Minutes" into a top rated television programme in the United States and established it as the gold standard for broadcast journalism.

CBS correspondent Mike Wallace, the "60 Minutes" interviewer, died Saturday at age 93 in New Canaan, Connecticut.
